Together with a maximum of 5 people, learn different craft techniques with personalized attention.
With the help of Daniel Lizarralde, a Basque craftsman educated at the City & Guilds of London Art School, among others, you will be able to learn handmade techniques for carving wood, to weave grid seats by hand, to make baskets with reed marrow, or make baskets of heart of palm.
You will have to choose one of the disciplines and, based on examples already made, we will analyze the techniques so that you can reproduce them.
You can take home the examples we make so we can continue practicing.
It will be after lunch when we leave the academy to visit craft and artistic places where the manipulation of wood is the common denominator.
Discover hidden woodcarving treasures and find out how working with wood has been an important aspect of Basque artistic culture daily life.
After lunch we will leave the coast and head inland to visit little known places and delightful, historic villages, in the forested, mountainous, interior of Guipuzcoa, where we can see how wood has been worked in this part of the world.
Your host, Daniel, born here and steeped in the culture and the craftsmanship of the area, is the perfect guide to open this world to you.
Groups will be small and personal, with a maximum of 6 people, allowing individual attention and a greater closeness to the surroundings.
Small group sizes allow us to visit the famous Basque Sociedades (dining clubs) which are a feature of Basque culture, and other places where people gather.
San Sebastian, a beautiful, compact seaside city, said to have the best urban beach in Europe, has much to offer and you can be assured that you will not miss anything.
